December 2nd Playgroup

Because of the Cookie Exchange we will be moving the time back that playgroup is meeting. We are going to play at the Junior Service League park on Yaupon near the church at 12:30. That way you can do both the cookie exchange and playgroup. (You may want to bring a picnic lunch.)

November 18th Playgroup

November 4th Playgroup

While tomorrow's forecast doesn't include rain, I don't think the parks will be quite dry enough, so let's go to the Sea Center. There may be a nice breeze to keep off the bugs along the walkway... deck-way? Whatever that long pier thing is. See you at 10:30.

October 14th Playgroup

We're going to the Pumpkin Patch today!!!
There are usually little pumpkins for sale at $0.50 to $1.00 and bigger pumpkins cost ... more. But there are cute photo ops! And fun things to do.
We'll see you at 10:30.

October 7th Playgroup

We'll be at Clute's municipal park at 10:00 at the yellow and purple playground. (I forget if that's #1 or #2 - but it's on the side behind the pool.)
The weather forecast is 83 degrees and mostly sunny.
Invite your friends but nobody tell the bugs, okay?

ps- Note the time change: I put it at 10:00 because I am hoping the weather will be cooler then.

The Gathering Place--October

We have lots of fun things planned for the Gathering Place this month.
We are looking for thick rubber bands (like what comes on broccoli) and juice lids or baby food jar lids (the twist off kind) for the craft.
Also, if you are cleaning out and donating things, consider donating it to the gathering place. We are always collecting items for door prizes.
If you can help cook lunch this month, please let me know. We are looking for four people to cook (these are very simple recipes).
Everyone is welcome to come lend a hand. It is an enjoyable service that is very much appreciated!

September 30th Playgroup

We'll have Playgroup at Shy Pond at 10:00. Hopefully the earlier time will mean the weather is still a little bit cool. (Our family has colds and won't be there.)

Thursday's Relief Society Meeting

It was wonderful seeing so many of you at last night's Relief Society meeting!! I really enjoyed visiting with everyone. Preparing for last night helped me learn so much about freezer meals that I feel confident enough to try one of the recipies in Don't Panic MORE Dinner's in the Freezer, this week. Something with chicken, maybe. If any of you try some of the recipies let us know how it turns out!

I have added a calendar to our blog so we can see upcoming events. If you are having trouble viewing it or have any suggestions for it, please let me know. Soon I want to add a schedule of the Sunday lessons for those of us, like me, who have a hard time keeping up with the paper copy we were given in the beginning of the year. Blogging is new to me so I am very open to suggestions!

September 9th Playgroup

We'll be meeting at my house at 10:30am. Lots of rain between now and then -stay safe everybody!

Also, there is a Relief Society Meeting that night at the church at 7pm. Freezer Foods -I'm so excited!

September 2nd Playgroup

We'll be going to the Lake Jackson library for playgroup. We haven't done this before but I'm curious to try it.
There isn't a story time or something like that, we're just going to play with the puzzles and puppets and maybe read a few books.

PLAYGROUP Aug. 12

We are going to the Lake Jackson outdoor pool. I think it opens at 11 am, so that is when we will meet. It might be a good idea to pack a lunch, they have tables and chairs there in the shade. The cost is $3 for adults and $2 for kids. I think 2 yrs (maybe 3) and under are free. Hope to see you there!

We will be going to the museum at the college tomorrow. As usual we will meet at 10:30.

July 15th Playgroup

Well, I know we just did the Sea Center recently, but our car is in the shop and the Sea Center is within walking distance..

Playgroup is at the Sea Center! 10:30am.

Maybe try to do the outside trail first and then go inside to cool off. With all the rain we've had I'm sure the turtles are just in heaven!

July 8th Playgroup

Due to 70% chance of rain, my idea of playing at the fountain outside the library/ civic center will be postponed until next week.

I'm asking Marie if we can have playgroup at her house this week. And by "I'm asking" I just texted her a minute ago. So call her on Thursday to confirm. :D

In honor of the impending rains from Hurricane Alex, combined with the fact that so many friends are out of town (so we "all" could fit), Playgroup will be at my humble abode. 10:30 per usual. Hope to see you there! :)

June 17th Playgroup

We are FINALLY going to the BEACH!!

Everyone's welcome; all ages.

We'll be out there earlier than the normal 10:30 so as to try to not fry our fair skin yet still get a few hours of good, solid play.

We are going to the first public beach access (Kim Cardon, as well as myself, will often go here, in case you've ever come with one of us) and this is how you get there:

From Lake Jackson, drive 288/332 south
Continue with 332 south when it splits off at an exit.
Drive on 332 for about 12 minutes until you get to Surfside.
There's a stoplight.
Sometimes it's just a blinking stoplight.
Sometimes it's not.
Watch out for cops and turn left at this stoplight onto the Blue Water Highway.
Drive this for about 5 minutes.
Things you will pass along the way: some funny little seaside resturants, a "dangerous curve", a really big house renting golf carts and water slides, a tiny grocery store, the crabbing pier, the re-built Stahlman Park building, and, after a while, a sign about "Texas Star" something-or-other.
Just about there you will also see a SMALL blue sign on the left side of the road indicating the entrance to the "1st Public Beach Access" on the right side of the road. Turn here.
You should see my little gold car parked there on the beach and us frolicking.
(I like to stay close to the entrance because it's technically one-way, but the exit is literally a 10 drive in the other direction.)

Summer Break for Walking Group

Walking group has been postponed for the summer.  Activities with our children seem to be interfering with scheduling for this.  We hope to have it up and running again in July or August at the very latest!  Enjoy your summer!

June 10th Playgroup

(So I've tried to find the official name of this place and I can't, but anyways...)
I want to have Playgroup at the park that the ward had a pancake breakfast at about a year ago, but I don't know what the name of the park is and I wasn't paying very close attention to how we got there, I just know it's out near Clute/Richwood.

I'm thinking it's near/behind Polk Elementary. Can anyone call me and confirm this?

June 3rd Playgroup

Well, folks, summer vacation is here and all your big kids are home.
I'll do my best to think up things the whole family can do!

This week: not the beach.

Sorry! But the weather did not look very cooperative!

So instead, we'll go to the Lake Jackson Historical Museum (across from the library). Meeting at 10:30.

Some future brainstormed ideas (and please comment and add!):
The Beach.
The Houston Children's Museum.
The water play place outside the library.
The outdoor pool.
The fire station.
The Zoo.
A place to pick fruit.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science.
A petting farm.

May 27th Playgroup

Many of the ladies I've spoken to this past week have said they might not be there, (I won't be there myself), but it's a fine day for the park!

Playgroup will be at the Clute Parks near Fisherman's Wharf apartments, Brazoswood High School, etc. Meet at 10:30.

Walking Group

We've moved out doors!  The walking group is now meeting at the following location:

Make sure and bring bug spray those pesky mosquitoes are starting pop up at the park.  Also, some days we stay after and let our children play at the park, so don't forget the sunscreen too!

May 11 Food Storage Group

will be canceled. Please feel free to attend the Provident Living Roundtable at the church at 7 pm. They will be discussing meal planning and shopping. It will be in the Young Women's room.
Oh, and don't forget the Luncheon at Tina Owen's house from 11-2.

May 6th Playgroup

Water games at the Cardon's! 10:30 am.

Bring things to get wet with - blowup wading pools, sprinkler attachments, buckets and sponges(?).

And don't forget the sunscreen!

April 29th Playgroup

We'll be at the Junior Service League park on Yaupon, a.k.a. the park on Yaupon with a parking lot, at 10:30.
Reminder: No bathrooms, and I don't just mention this for me! :D

April 22nd Playgroup

Here's a new one:

Fireman's Park (at 207 Forest Oaks, Lake Jackson, TX 77566).
The general area is where Dixie, Sycamore, and Plantation all meet, but you should probably look this one up on a map (or click the link for a map!)

We saw it from afar one Saturday while we were out yardsaling, (which if spell-checker is to be believed, is not a word), and it looked like it had some pretty cute equipment to play on.

Cautions:
1) NO BATHROOMS.
2) And I can't figure if parking on Forest Oaks is better or parking on Aloe Vera Ct. is better. (There isn't a parking lot; we're all parking on the curb.)

The weather should be nice at 68 degrees and partly cloudy.

I'm going to try to be very prompt at 10:30, (especially because of the no bathrooms).

April Food Storage Group

Tuesday 13th 10am.
We will be making cardboard can rotators for your pantry shelves. If you have cardboard boxes you would like to use, please bring them. If not, come anyway, we grabbed a bunch at Lowe's.
We might make these in the backyard so the kids can stay occupied, bring a blanket if you like.

April 8th Playgroup

We'll be playing at Clute Municipal Park, but this time at the other playground, (the one with the purple slides). Thursday, 10:30, as usual. Thursday's weather looks nice, too, so that's a plus!
See the posting for March 25th if you're not sure where the park is.

Also, next week, April 15th, I will not be able to come because of a doctor's appointment. Would anyone like for playgroup to be somewhere in particular, like maybe their own house? Let me know!

March 25th Playgroup

We'll be checking out the Clute park 10:30 Thursday. The weather may disagree with us. If so, we'll go down the block to the Clute library and just kick around there. (I've never been to either place, so we'll just see how things go.)
The map to Clute Municipal Park, if you are unfamiliar. It's off Brazoswood, off Dixie, near Fisherman's Wharf apartments. Don't forget to slow down past the school!
The library is very close by.

And, as a reminder for those interested, there is the tamale activity that night, 6:30 at the church building, with the Brazoria Spanish Branch Relief Society.

March 18th Playgroup UPDATE

Inge's babe is sick and so we'll not be having playgroup at their house.

Marie Wilford has said she'll host it - Call for directions, they live in the Fisherman's Wharf Apartments.

March 18th Playgroup

This Thursday our playgroup will be at Inge's house at 10:30.

You can call her for directions - her phone number is on the ward directory online - but to give you a general idea of how long it would take to drive there, they live near Brazosport Community College.

Also that day... and you'd have to skip playgroup for this.... Mindy Whipple is (weather permitting) driving out to Alvin to Froberg Farms to do some "you-pick" strawberries. I was there myself recently and there are plenty of berries and they were $1.80/lb, I believe. 8:00 am was the departure time last I heard and it takes about 45 minutes to get there. FYI: You can drive a stroller out to the rows of berries.

March 11th Playgroup UPDATE

Kim has informed me that her daughters entire grade will be at the Sea Center at the same time as playgroup would be.

So we will be having Playgroup at my house. You can still go to the Sea Center afterwards if you want - it's like a block away.

March 11th Playgroup

The forecast for this Thursday looks sketchy - and it follows four days of precipitation - so we'll not be visiting a playground.
How about the Sea Center? (10:30, as usual)
And I think I'll start calling folks more about having Playgroup at their houses so when the weather's unfortunate, we've someplace new to go!

Swap! (Except I don't want anything in return!)

Dear Sisters,
I am donating some household things and wanted to offer them to you before I took them to a thrift store!
My neighbor was getting rid of this dresser, which needs a little inside work:
And this little mini vacuum works well (It is only a suction vacuum - no bristles) but I don't need something like that:
I have a baby changing table that I got off of Craig'slist some time ago. It looks just like this except a previous owner tried painting it white and only finished doing one side of it! I have covered the shelves with contact paper in a white/little blue flower pattern.

And some metal shelving bathroom storage that looks similar to this: I also have some women's boots and dress shoes size 9, men's shoes size 11, a double/full sized mattress pad, various media (books, CDs, videos, etc) for kids and adults, new lotions, men's clothing, small toys, "gift items," etc.
Now I have been to a lot of garage sales around town and I can say that my boxes of "stuff" are better than many sales I've been to. So if you are into that kind of thing and you are nearby, come stop in!
I really just wanted to offer these things to my Relief Society sisters first, for free, before they ended up donated! (I'm planning on taking this to the thrift store next Saturday, March 13th.)

February 25th Playgroup

This Thursday's weather looks just great! We'll be checking out Dunbar's playground, which will hopefully be dry enough. (What?! Not MacLean? Shocker!!)

Directions: Dunbar is kind of behind the Brazosport Mall. The playground is on the side of the park closest to the mall, however I think the road is one-way. The entrance is actually on the other side of Hwy 288 near the intersection of FM 2004 and That Way. (There is a picnic pavilion, by way of landmarks.) Enter there, drive under the highway and you will come to the playground!

p.s.- last week's Shy Pond visit did NOT go over well with the little crowd. They liked the playground equipment well enough, but the geese and ducks FREAKED them out. We left in tears... again. We'll probably not try that park for a little while. Sorry! But you could still go play there and see how your little one(s) do!

February 18th Playgroup

This is a pending-good-conditions Playgroup location: Shy Pond Playground. (The side with the slides is where I'm going to park.) The forecast says 63 degrees and partly cloudy.
I'm thinking that if this good weather continues it ought to be dry enough, not that I'm going to be going off into the fields or anything. I would bring a jacket though because there can be a cool breeze off the water sometimes.
And if you want, you can feed the ducks and other birds off of the dock. Emma and I tried to feed to ducks a few weeks back and there were three big geese that mommy had to scare away. That kinda freaked Emma out; she kept telling me about it for the rest of the day! So we'll just be stickin' to the slides and swings.

January 28th Playgroup

We're going to MacLean Park for playgroup this week. The forecast doesn't look too cold (70 degrees), though it does get windy out there, so bring a jacket! We'll meet at the playground at 10:30.

January 21st Playgroup

We'll be meeting at the Brazosport Mall at the play space for children at 10:30. (That's over by Sears, Chuckie Cheese's, and Ross)

January 14th Playgroup

This playgroup will be at Marie Wilford's apartment. They are located across from Target by the car dealerships, on Eucalyptus. Call Marie or myself for the code to get in the gate... or tail another car in! ;) Their apt is #3102 and you can "call" them on the intercom/gate thingy to be let in.

Marie has asked anyone who would like to, to please bring knitting or crocheting supplies, (like needles, hooks, and yarn). She's been learning more about knitting in particular, but what a great chance to hobnob about what we know together!

Welcome to a New Year everyone!
I hear Thursday could have some quite chilly weather! So we'll skip the parks...

Would anyone like to volunteer their house as a meeting place? I'll be calling around, but I don't even know who's back in town or not!

Also, if you know of a week in the future you'd like to let us invade for a few hours, or if you have a great idea you'd like to try with the group, please let me know!
